Murri’s too good in Origin series win![]() Sam Thaiday celebrates series win after game III It was supposed to be a “dead-rubber”, but Origin III will be remembered as the most exciting game of the 2009 series, topped off by a frenetic final minute in which Queensland prop Steve Price ended up unconscious and three players were sent from the field. New South Wales managed to salvage some much needed respect by winning the final match at Suncorp Stadium 28 – 16, the series however going to the Maroons after outclassing the Blues in the previous two matches in Sydney and Melbourne. As we have come to expect, Queensland’s Indigenous stars were key to the Maroons success and provided plenty of highlights in all three games. Johnathan Thurston would have come very close to being named Player of the Series for the second year running, beaten out by fellow Aboriginal player Greg Inglis who was outstanding in games one and two and accepted the Wally Lewis Medal for the first time. If you watched the telecast – you may have caught a moment in the post match celebrations where all Queensland’s Indigenous players gathered for a group photo – we’ll track it down to post here soon! The fisticuffs in the final minute proved there is no passion lost from Origin football. Justin Hodges was irate after Price was knocked out by NSW forward Brett White and latter labelled the punch a “dog act”. What did you think of Origin 3? Post your thoughts here. |
